The World'S Top Model Railroad Manufacturers

Model Railroading is not just another toy making scheme to earn good money, although some may look at it that way but they serve greater functions rather than just being a mere child's plaything. They are crafted in a sense that they are precisely patterned to the real thing. A lot of model railroad manufacturers have existed in the industry for more than a century now. Since, transportation is an essential part of our everyday life; they saw this as an opportunity for a good business, and they were indeed correct.

Model railroading means reducing the size of the actual trains to create miniature models, they can either be toys or collected as decorations. The first record of model trains being traced was even as early as 1840's. It was patterned after the first type of trains - steam powered. It was called carpet railways because unlike what model railroad manufacturers' build today it doesn't have rail tracks it was just placed on the ground and was allowed to run around. It was made out of literally scrap materials filled with water and beneath it was a burner to create a steam-like effect.

Just like their mother train, these model trains also have undergone through different stages for improvement. From the olden steam powered ones to the high-speed trains of today. They have long been the favorites of elite collectors worldwide. Involvement in hobby can range from a possession of a single train set to hiking up to large amounts of money and countless hours of hard labor for its construction. Model Railroad manufacturers build these replicas to serve more functions. One of which is to serve as prototypes for a proposed innovation without even incurring the cost to build a life-sized version of it.

Here are some of the well-known model train manufacturers:

Lionel Corporation is an American based toy making company which was founded by Joshua Lionel Cowen back in 1900. It is said to be the most popular not to mention the oldest. Although they sell high quality and precise models, their products were mainly marketed as train toys.

Hornby Model trains was founded a year after by Frank Hornby in 1901. Just like Lionel, Hornby is also one of the favorite model train manufacturers throughout the US and in the world.

Both model train manufacturers were best in their own ways. They have exemplified dedication and superior craftsmanship that's why they are still remembered. Since both already stop production, their trains served as an exquisite collector's item.
